Antique Bloodstone Nautical Fob, Pendant, 15ct gold, anchor

This sweet and unique antique nautical themed fob dates to the early Victorian Period. It is in really excellent condition with no signs of wear on the top loop and only a few minor and light scratches on the bloodstone and casing. The casing is engraved with parallel lines and angled lines which give a very pleasing effect. The engraving on the bloodstone is of a bird (Swallow?) flying and holding a rope in its beak which passes through the top of an Anchor and next to that is a mooring bollard with the broken end of the rope.
What story is this intriguing piece depicting and where did it travel to with its keeper? It was no doubt engraved for a sailor, mariner or adventurer off to see the world or emigrating to the New Worlds and cutting their ties with their old lives. Or was it perhaps a good luck charm from a sweetheart to ensure a safe return? This interesting piece will enhance a charm bracelet or necklace, and of course would be perfect on a watch chain.

MATERIALS: 15ct Gold (acid tested), Bloodstone.

CONDITION: excellent, very minimal wear to the bloodstone.
