Antique Bloodstone Watch Key Pendant, intaglio with family crest

Watch keys were worn on watch chains, longuards or chatelaines. They were a means of displaying status as well as having a practical use. This one is 15ct gold and the shield shaped bloodstone is deep seal (intaglio) engraved with a family crest. The intaglio would perhaps have been used to seal letters or documents. The loop is attached to a swivelling section on the watch key stem which is engraved.
The crest features a bird atop a shield which bears various devices. The Latin text below the shield reads ‘PAX AMOR FIDES’. This translates to ‘Peace Love Faith’. A worthy and sentimental motto to guide us all.
This lovely example would make an excellent gift choice for collectors or jewellery lovers and an unusual pendant gift for birthdays or Christmas.
